Nine artists call Beach Street Studios & Gallery their artistic “home.” Meet the women who create artwork in our studio space.

    Kat is an oil and acrylic artist based in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts. Her journey in art began as a child playing outside and collecting treasures. She spent many hours pondering the infinite spectrum of colors as she stared off into the distance or examined the tiniest aspects of nature. 

    Trained in elementary education and art at Wake Forest University (BA) and the University of Virginia (MEd), Kat has developed a distinct approach that merges cubism, mathematics, and color theory. Her work explores themes of nature, travel, and memories. Color is often her starting point as she works to simplify a scene while still working to convey the complicated image and depth of emotion.  With a focus on color, line, and balance, Kat’s art demonstrates the complex, layered beauty she perceives in this life in its simplest and most colorful form.

    Kathleen Chrzanowski’s work has been featured in exhibitions, galleries, shops, interior design companies, and locally in outdoor shows with the Outsiders Art Collective, contributing to a growing presence in the contemporary art scene.

    Sarah Chamberlain is a recent transplant of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts. Growing up mostly in Nashville, Tennessee, she graduated from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga with a BA in Fine Arts with a concentration in Art History. Over the years, Sarah’s family has lived in Atlanta, Chicago, and now Manchester, and here she has been able to find a community here where her art thrives.

    Sarah Chamberlain is an oil painter who focuses mostly on still life painting. She finds meaning and joy in the simplicity of everyday objects. You can often find reflections in her paintings, as they intrigue and challenge the way she views an object.

    Kate is a contemporary figurative artist whose work explores the interplay of abstraction, color, and pattern. Drawing inspiration from her life in Cape Ann, California, and South Africa, she creates works that capture memories of a specific moment in time.

    After a successful 20-year career in law, Kate dedicated herself to her artistic passions. Working in acrylics, watercolor, ceramics, and printmaking, Kate finds particular inspiration in the challenges of plein air painting. "The practical constraints of the outdoors," she explains, "push me to reconsider when a piece is truly 'finished.'"

    Courtney was born on Cape Ann, Massachusetts into a family of artists. Her mother was a local ceramist and teacher, and her grandmother and aunt were both painters. Courtney has shown her work in multiple locations on the North Shore, and also welcomes commissions.

    Courtney has practiced in a variety of mediums including immersive sculpture, but enjoys the therapeutic way painting calms her.  She draws inspiration for her oil and watercolor paintings from the power of the ocean and nature which she often sees in her athletic pursuits along the water's edge. As an avid runner, she finds the ability to calm her body and mind through nature and you can see this in her work. “Water and nature give me breath. It both charges me with energy, and calms an anxious mind. When I paint a landscape I channel all these juxtaposing emotions onto the canvas with vibrancy and bold colors. I hope that my paintings can give inspiration to others, evoking freedom, perseverance, calm, or even healing.”

  • Jennifer is a self-taught artist exploring block printing and other mediums, drawing inspiration from nature and historical design traditions. Influenced by the Folly Cove Designers, Cape Ann's rich artistic history, and early folk art - including wall murals, stencils, antiques, and textiles - her works reflect a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and heritage. Through her prints and designs, she seeks to reinterpret these traditions with a fresh perspective.

    Before turning her focus to art, Jennifer spent over a decade in the retail industry as a buyer for brands including Free People and Lilly Pulitzer. This background informs her eye for color, pattern, and storytelling through design.

  • Growing up in a family of builders and artists, I was immersed in a world where sawdust and paint were more than materials—they were the essence of life itself. This innate connection to design led me to leave behind a corporate career and pursue an interior design diploma at The Interior Design Institute and set up an Interior Design studio in coastal New England where I reside today.

    My aesthetic is rooted in my diverse experiences and education. From global travels to living on both coasts, these influences have shaped a design philosophy that celebrates the beauty of natural organic materials and the timeless elegance of heirloom pieces, creating interiors that are as welcoming as they are enduring.

    My work can be seen throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island & Southern California and more.

  • Elizabeth Janisch grew up in Manchester with five siblings, Parents and many pets ranging from dogs, cats, turtles, rabbits, birds, a caiman and a horse. Elizabeth studied at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts specializing in painting. Her senior thesis was comprised of large scale, colorful endangered species. She later did an independent study creating many large clay animals. She then worked at the Kane Gallery on Newbury Street in Boston. 

    At Lesley University Elizabeth earned her Master's in early Education and Creative Art before teaching grade school art and coaching sports in Marblehead. She has sold her work in the Manchester Festival of the Arts and the Marblehead Festival of the Arts as well as the Marblehead Artisan Gallery and her private shows. 

    Elizabeth has painted many murals for businesses, children's playrooms, and private homes. She also enjoys creating portraits of people and pets. She is drawn to painting wildlife and marine life. She enjoys running and hiking with her dog as well as activities with her fourteen year old son. Her son plays the guitar and has been musically gifted since a very young age.

  • Working mainly in oils, Amy is inspired by the beautiful places she loves and aims to capture the evolving beauty in our natural world. She plays in bold color with nature, seasons, shadow, and light in landscapes, seascapes, still life, as well as architecture and nautical life from places she calls home both here on the beautiful North Shore of MA, and back in the south of England where she grew up. 

    After majoring in art and business in college, Amy pursued a career in the nonprofit world and took a break from creating, but felt a calling to pick up the brushes again in 2015 and hasn’t stopped since.

  • Kara graduated from Boston College and the New England School of Art & Design. With a background in graphic design, she’s always loved playing with color and pattern, which first inspired her abstract paintings. More recently, her work has shifted toward capturing the landscapes and landmarks of Cape Ann and Cape Cod, where she spent childhood summers. Painting is not only a creative outlet for Kara but also a way to hold onto the happy memories of adventures she shares with her children.
